Fabrik is introducing two external hard drives solutions notable with enormous capacity—1.5TB for the Pro and 3GB for the Duo Pro, which combines two 1.5GB drives that can be used in either Speed (RAID 0) or Copy (RAID 1) configuration. Speed Mode (AKA striping) provides more rapid data transfer (up to a theoretical maximum of 3Gbps, compared with 480Mbps for USB 2.0). Copy Mode (mirroring) provides the security of keeping two identical copies of the data, one on each drive, though it effectively limits the data capacity to 1.5TB. Currently available in smaller capacities, these two solutions will be available within the next few months.
The SimpleTech Duo Pro Drive lists at $279.99 for a 1TB version, $419.99 for 1.5TB, and $549.99 for 2TB. The 3TB model (pricing also not set) will be available by the end of the year.
